The KwK 42 and 43 it was developed for were more than enough to deal with any opposing AFV at silly distances, with plain old APCBC/HE (a JS-2 @ 4,600m, apparently), so would be wasteful. However, it would allow them to deal with the IS-3, albeit at very close range.
